This example of 1812 Davignon 1-A has exceptional details suggestive of an AU-coin, and has much better details than most examples seen. My guess is that nearly 200 years ago the authenticity of this piece was questioned early in its life due to some of the original silver plating wearing off, and in order to mark this as counterfeit someone put 2 holes in it thus preserving the details.
