The 1916-S TD.1-TD.A Buffalo nickel counterfeit was struck on a German silver planchet. It is most easily recognized by the obverse die crack at 9 o'clock. From the handful of examples seen, the die details are not better than VG/F. This is a scarce variety, but the 'most common' amongst the 13 documented (as of May 2026) counterfeit transfer die Buffalo nickels published between the first Bad Metal book and subsequent discoveries.

 

The example shown is a great example for the variety. All details are bold and no scratches or other issues.
