Francis Leroy Henning produced transfer die counterfeit Jefferson nickels with years 1939, 1944, 1946, 1947, and 1953. There are 3 different 1944-dated varieties using 2 different obverse dies, 1 and 2, and 2 different reverse dies, A and B. Henning nickel's have become very popular in recent years as a result of 2 publications on the subject. Between 2024 and 2025, 1944-dated varieties have sold in the $250-700 range, the stronger prices coming from ICG-holdered examples.

 

This examples uses the second obverse die with the first reverse die with the hole in the R. The obverse and reverse fields show strong die stress lines illustating that this was one of the last examples struck with this die combination. Similarly, this reverse die boldly shows a strong die crack. The condition of this piece is actually quite nice.
