1815 Davignon 2-B is part of the Y 1s family. This variety was struck on a German silver planchet.
Ok - the former owner and I are both in agreement this is a 1815 2-B because the remaining details appear to match, and those details do not match any other variety - analysis by deduction.
Yes, this piece is low grade. For what it's worth, this may be the least expensive '1815' dated contemporaru counterfeit CBH you'll encounter. Despite the wear, this piece has some cool, mid19th century inscriptions on it, including impressively 'BAD' on the reverse, indicative that this was a word used for counterfeits before the Civil War. The obverse also has J.M and 1857 - my guess is that was the initials of the last owner to pull this from circulation and the year that was done. What this piece lacks in die details it makes up in a period inscription - something you just do not find on these pieces.
