The 1838 Davignon 1-A was the first variety documented by Davignon in his counterfeit CBH books.  This variety is only known struck on German silver planchets.  Reeded edge hand-made die struck counterfeit CBH varieties are fairly rare as there are only 38 varieties documented.  This variety is considered scarce, but still only 10-12 examples have been documented per the 2021 census.
